News: Let's talk contracts

Tuesday, July 18, 2006

GUD is transparent. We've been working with writers and artists on the wording of our agreement, and we think we've arrived at a contract that rocks. We want to give as good as we get in this venture. There's some information about what we're asking for, for rights, on our subs page. And payment is explained in plain English on the dibs page.

We've not bought, sold or processed anything yet; we're in the final stages of finessing the contract to be a good fit for both the contributors and GUD.

from your 'sub' page:-'An editor may see something he or she wants for a future issue. We'll buy it—pay you—right away, and publish it when the proper time comes. We'll keep you informed of when your words will see ink.'...
.... and until it is published, who holds the copyright? can the submission be pulled out if another offer is made for publication?.... also:- how much do you pay for submissions and for all the other plans that you have for selling?

Until it is published, we hold rights on it, because we paid for them. Of course, you'll be made aware before you sign anything when exactly we plan to publish your piece.

We've attempted to outline pay in detail on the "we pay you" page (see link from "payment" under the subscription/submissions page).
