News: We're ready to accept you

This whole endeavor, as many of my endeavors are, has been a bootstrapping process of the nth degree. At each stage, enough is done to keep things moving forward, to keep things from blocking. When the site was launched, we were able to accept submissions. Within a day or two, we could reject them, and shortly after that we had the option of moving them up to "long-listed", so named because I wasn't sure if there would be another step after that.
So far, it seems like there isn't, so "long-listed" may as well be "short-listed"--still, I'll hold my breath a bit longer; perhaps the next issue will want a more detailed plan. But we're a good distance from the next issue, even if we're already considering some content for it. That's an extra six months away, in theory.
A few nights ago, I made the milestone of being able to let go of things that we'd long-listed, trying to give each some loving commentary for why we held on to it for so long, and why we finally let it go. Tonight, just an hour or so ago, I made it so acceptance letters could be sent out. I've done a wave of them, and it's not all that will be going out for issue 0, but it's a good start, and people are already beginning to confirm that the pieces are still available for GUD--there's always a bit of a question in the best case, and we accept sim subs, so you really never know.
I'm nervous, and excited, and a little frustrated that there's still so much work to be done before we can share these gems with the rest of the world. Still, the work will be done, each bit in its turn, and the site and magazine will develop. Contracts need to be sent and received. Layout/ordering needs to be finalized. Then proofing, proofing, proofing, and more proofing. We're probably a week or two away from accepting pre-orders, subscriptions, and the like. And just a few "short" months from sending out delicious bundles of printed matter, as far and wide as we can.

If a piece is still long-listed at this point in time without notice of acception or rejection, what can I assume about its status? Absolutely loving the site....keep up the good work! ;)

It probably means that your work is strongly under consideration for the next issue, and we're trying to figure out exactly how to manage that. :)
