Depending on who you believe, it's either Black because it's the point in time when retailers start actually making money, every year; or it's because of the extremely stressful and chaotic traffic reminiscent of the 1929 stock-market crash (Black Tuesday).  Regardless, though, you know it means great deals at nearly any store you happen across.  And GUD's not one to pass up giving you a great deal.
